BUFFALO BILLS
Originality: B+
Aesthetic Appeal: A
Overall Grade: A-
Like I said before, this one division hurts my Originality argument about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers using their throwback jerseys as alternates. The Bills (and Jets) both did it before the Bucs, so that helps this jersey's Originality score. All that aside, these are AWESOME jerseys, and they look GREAT on and off the field (lovin' the ALL CAPS). I don't know why more teams don't stick with simple, classic jerseys like these, as they always look best in action and off the field. GREAT jerseys.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
Originality: B+
Aesthetic Appeal: C
Overall Grade: C+
These jerseys are kind of like the Carolina Panthers blue alternates I talked about before, in that they feature their secondary, somewhat more ridiculous color as the main color on the alternate jerseys. However, the Dolphins have TWO ridiculous colors, teal and bright orange, so they are somewhat disqualified from that category. I bumped up the Originality grade some for their sheer bravery in busting out these super bright, crossing guard-esque orange numbers. Well done on the balls, Dolphins, but these jerseys are almost too much to look at in games, so they get a middle of the road other grades from me.
NEW YORK JETS
Originality: B-
Aesthetic Appeal: A-
Overall Grade: B+
I gave the Jets a lower Originality score than the Bills because they did it after Buffalo (which reminds me, I officially change the Buccaneers' Originality score to a C+ from a few posts ago). These jerseys are truly old old school, which I think is pretty badass. They harken back to the days when games cost a nickel, and men donned hats and waistcoats while smoking pipes and patting eager youngsters on their heads at the ballpark. I really like the dark blue and gold, and these jerseys earn a solid B+ from me, because I just don't think they are quite A material.
As with the other divisions we've done, there is that team that just refuses to have an official alternate jersey. In this division, that team is the New England Patriots. They sported spiffy throwbacks this last season for the AFL 50th Anniversary, but no official word has been given on whether they will continue as an alternate next year. Let's just hope.
Also, tomorrow night I will be doing a post with NBA Trade Deadline grades for the teams that got involved. I just can't wait.
