Rate The Alternate Jerseys: NBA Southeast Division

If you know me, you know one thing I really enjoy in sports is analyzing teams' jerseys. I believe the right sets of jerseys can make a sporting event eminently more watchable. I really like the idea of alternate or third jerseys. Teams in every sport have adopted them, and I am going to rate all of them for you right here. They will be rated on an A-F grading scale in different categories: 1) Originality 2) Aesthetic Appeal and 3) Overall Grade. I'll be breaking down alternate jerseys by division one at a time at random across the four major sports. Hope you enjoy!

ATLANTA HAWKS

Originality: B+
Aesthetic Appeal: A-
Overall Grade: A-

The Hawks new red alternate is really sleek and looks good in game action on an HDTV. I had to give the Originality a B+ because Phoenix made a three-letter alternate first. I like Atlanta's more though because "ATL" is more well known than "PHX". I think this is a great alternate.

MIAMI HEAT

Originality: C
Aesthetic Appeal: B
Overall Grade: B-

I like these red jerseys better than the Heat's normal black road jerseys. They make you think more of heat than black. Dwyane Wade looks fierce in red when he is tearing apart defenses.

ORLANDO MAGIC

Originality: B
Aesthetic Appeal: A-
Overall Grade: B+

The only thing separating these throwback alternates from an A are the fact that the number font can make some numbers (like ones with 9's in them, Rashard Lewis) look funny and unnatural. Otherwise, these jerseys are BAD ASS with the black and pinstripes and the large stars on the shorts. They look great in action.

This division only has three teams with alternates as the Bobcats have adopted an updated version of their old blue alternates (great) as their standard road jerseys and the Wizards have gotten rid of their more than terrible gold top and black shorts jerseys. Keep on the look out for breakdowns of other divisions around sports soon.

  1. ATL is dope! They deserve to have 3 All-Stars; Joe Johnson, Al Horford and their 3rd jersey. The whole east should be decked out in ATL alternative
